Panorama

Panorama a YouTrack extension for professional resource and capacity planning. The app visualizes cross-project employee utilization in a clear employee timeline—enabling better planning decisions and optimal resource allocation. The project-centric portfolio view will be available in a future version.

The app aggregates data from YouTrack tickets: assigned team members, time estimates (for planned workload), tracked work hours (for actual workload), project and organizational assignments, and time periods.

Planned workload is based on time estimates and ticket assignments—ideal for advance planning and already available in the current version. Actual, historical workload (based on time tracking) and the ability to switch between the two modes for comparing planned versus actual figures are planned for a future version.

In the Employee Timeline, bars for parallel projects are stacked to show the planned workload based on time estimates and assignments. This view can be enabled or disabled globally. The display of remaining capacity, as well as fine-grained indicators for over- and under-utilization, is planned for future versions.

Yes. In the app settings, you can specify individual weekly hours for employees with irregular work schedules (e.g., 20 hours per week). The workload calculation adjusts accordingly.

By default, all of those available in YouTrack. Smart filters to narrow the selection to specific relevant organizations, projects, or employees are planned for a future release and will make the views even more focused.

In the initial version, the focus is on visualizing and reporting on existing assignments. A future update could include a drag-and-drop sidebar that allows employees to be dragged directly onto projects and assigned to them—with an additional dialog box for detailed assignment settings.

As the main app in the sidebar—this makes it permanently accessible via the main menu and provides a central entry point for all resource planning activities.

Panorama essential core resource management features—such as capacity planning and timeline views—directly into the YouTrack environment. Compared to tools like BigPicture for Jira, Panorama benefits Panorama the fact that YouTrack already includes certain features, such as Gantt charts, out of the box. The app therefore focuses specifically on cross-project resource reporting and workload balancing. Even though Panorama does not Panorama offer the full scope of a traditional enterprise PPM tool, it is precisely tailored to the needs of YouTrack users. However, our long-term goal remains Panorama further develop Panorama a comprehensive planning tool that also meets additional enterprise requirements.

Already available are the employee timeline, cross-project aggregation of ticket data, the display of planned workload (which can be enabled globally), zoom navigation (daily, weekly, and monthly views), and standard and custom weekly hours for part-time employees. Planned for future versions are, among other features, the portfolio view, smart filters, remaining capacity, the ability to switch between planned and actual workload, and fine-grained view settings.

Panorama in an early stage of development. Resource and capacity planning with the employee timeline is already available; additional features, such as the Portfolio View and smart filters, will be added in upcoming releases. During the Early Access period, the app can be activated for free as a trial via the JetBrains Marketplace—we especially welcome your real-world feedback during this phase.
